Dear all,
I came across a phrase 'duck boots' in an article about a fashion show.
Does it mean boots in the shape of a duck, or boots made from duck's
feathers or whatever?
The original sentence is:
That (The designer's inspiration) translated into lots of thin-wale
corduroy jackets and pants, trousers in a subtle plaid pattern, and
duck boots.
Thanks for your answer!
Best wishes,
Lizzy

I had never heard of them but Google is our friend. Google gave me
2 070 000 references. Duck boots seem to be a new name for waterproof
lace-up ankle-high boots made from leather. I would call them "boots."

A one-piece rubber boot is called a gumboot (gummie) or a Wellington
boot (wellie). Wellies can reach to the knee or higher.

Long waterproof boots reaching to the chest, joined like trousers, are
called "waders"

If your dictionary does not help, try Google!

"Duck" is a very durable woven fabric usually made of cotton. It comes from a Dutch word, "Doek," which means "Cloth" in Dutch. In English it became "Duck." English and Dutch have very similar sounds.
